Risk Overview

Thailand is a low-risk destination with a persistent exception: its roads. Scooter accidents involving visitors are so routine on the islands that they constitute the dominant serious-incident category by a wide margin. Beyond that, southern border provinces carry a separate insurgency-related risk profile and are advised against, marine incidents occur in monsoon conditions, and methanol contamination of spirits has caused deaths. The tourist economy is mature and most problems have well-worn solutions.

Medical Infrastructure

Bangkok's private hospitals are the regional gold standard and a medical tourism destination in their own right; Phuket and Chiang Mai also hold strong private capability. The islands are the gap: Koh Tao, Koh Phangan and similar rely on clinics, with serious cases moving by boat and ambulance to Samui or the mainland. Chambers serve the main dive regions, with availability worth confirming in low season.

Entry Requirements

Most Western nationalities enter visa-free for tourist stays. Verify current requirements and permitted lengths of stay before travel.

Altitude and Dive Notes

If you ride a scooter: licence, helmet, sober, daylight, and accept that this is the single decision most likely to determine whether you ever call us. Dive operations in the Similans are seasonal; confirm operator standards and emergency oxygen provision. Avoid free-poured spirits at beach parties.
